Red Flag Fund Board of Directors

Marlene Weber

I am hooked on every type of motorcycle racing even though I have never raced nor have I ever owned a motorcycle. Being at the race track or on the back of a motorcycle always puts a smile on my face. I enjoy racing as a spectator, flagger and pit crew for flat track, road, and ice racing. I love meeting new people, especially racers and listening to their stories. I am fascinated by the skill it takes to race and I am grateful to be able to do something to help the racing community. After working 23 years in a large healthcare company as Digital Marketing Manager, I retired in 2021. When I am not working on the RFF, I am a board member of a cemetery, I volunteer at a food pantry, sew, ride my bicycle and watch my son race.

What got you into motorcycle racing?
At the time I was a powertrain engineer on a WSBK race team. I was designing and building race bikes every day for work. One day I just decided to start racing myself! I already had the skills and ability to build and ride a bike.

What year did you begin to race?
I started doing trackdays in 2011. I won 7 championships and was 4th overall amateur in the Mid-West my rookie year of racing in 2014.

What motorcycles do you own - ones that you raced, currently race, have for fun?
I have 5 bikes: 2022 Honda CRF450RX for woods and ice racing. 2021 Honda CRF450RL for adventure riding. 2005 Triumph Speed Triple for the street. 2004 SV650 for racing. 1993 Yamaha RT180 because everyone needs a 2-stroke.

What championships and awards have you received during your years racing?
I won 7 championships in 2014 my rookie year. A few podiums over the years in the expert fields, including winning a few ASRA team challenges. I've podiumed several enduros and ice races as well. Basically, if it's got handlebars and two wheels, I'm pretty quick on it.

What do you do professionally?
I'm a powertrain development engineer for Indian Motorcycle. I calibrate the ECU to run the engine and make the bike drive nice. Yes, I get paid to ride motorcycles :)

Tell us about any community involvement you have done or are currently doing.
Outside of work, I'm on a King of the Baggers race team that's made up entirely of Indian employees, even the rider. My role, naturally, is calibration engineer for the bike's electronics.

Favorite fun activities you do off race season.
There is no "off season" for me. In the summer, I race dirt bike enduro, mountain bike enduro, and occasionally road race motorcycles. In the winter, I'm racing on the ice.

I started road racing in 1987 without any previous racing experience.  I have raced 125 & 250cc grand prix bikes, 300 to 1100cc production bikes taking more than one hundred wins, over twenty championships, and contingency collected from six different manufacturers.  I cross-trained in motocross & flat track as prep for professional events. I was the owner of a racing school from 1993 to 2008, working with new to professionally licensed road racers, entry level to advanced track day riders, and a consultant to racing teams, racing facilities, & civil engineering firms.  Known at the track as "Super Dave", I was sought out to race priceless vintage machinery for a few teams at “high value” events.

I love road racing, and I never want to quit.  My health and good fortune in racing circumstances has been excellent, but I advocate supporting a great and universal road racing support group in the American Midwest, the Red Flag Fund, as a great benefit to competitors in the US, from new amateurs to pros, for when injuries become excessive.
