Peace of Mind for Motorcycle Racers

Who We Help

The Red Flag Fund (RFF) is a national non-profit 501(c)3 organization that financially helps seriously injured motorcycle road racers. The focus of the RFF is assisting injured racers with insufficient insurance and other needs after a serious accident. Safety of the racers and officials on the track, partnership with racing associations, and building a sense of community among the racing family are other areas we strive to improve.

How We Began

In 1986 and before officially establishing a fund, the CCS Race Director, Gordon Lunde, at Blackhawk Farms Raceway in South Beloit, IL would ask for donations each time a rider was seriously injured. In 1987, Lunde started the Wegman Benefit Fund, named after a road racer who was injured at Blackhawk Farms Raceway, with the idea to raise money year-round and not just when someone was hurt. For 20 years Lunde ran the Wegman Benefit Fund. An annual auction at the race track was held to raise funds. The auction became a tradition for the Wegman Fund and continues for the RFF.

In 2006, the fund transferred to a new president who then legally changed the name from Wegman Benefit Fund to the Red Flag Fund, Inc.  In 2009, again, a new president, Brian McLaughlin, took over and ran the RFF until he decided to hang it up after the 2021 race season.

In January 2022, the RFF was transferred to Marlene Weber. In that year, the RFF launched its branding and a new logo, published a website, and became active in social media. It is the goal of the RFF to continue helping injured racers in the future and expand our fundraising efforts to provide safety on the race track.

Our Cause

RFF is passionate about keeping motorcycle road racing fun and safe. The RFF cares about the safety on the track and will strive to support that with future fund-raising programs. Some ways to provide peace of mind for racers can be air fences on the race track and wearing air suits. Motorcycle racers make huge investments in order to race, a dangerous sport, and it is our cause to help supplement the costs that come with injuries as well as to get the racers back onto the track.
